President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today passed out 298 Counter Terrorism Warriors of Intake 07/23-24, alongside 58 trainees of Special Tactics, who successfully completed nine months of rigorous training at the School of Military Intelligence and Security in Migyera, Nakasongola District.

The President praised the graduates for their resilience, emphasizing their ability to adapt to tough conditions and acquire essential skills despite limited resources. He highlighted this achievement as an example for all Ugandans, showing that with dedication, significant outcomes can be achieved even with minimal resources. Museveni also commended the UPDF’s effective use of resources in training a capable force and stressed the critical importance of intelligence in maintaining national security. He pledged to enhance the school’s infrastructure to support future training programs.

Given Uganda’s history of terrorist attacks, which have claimed many innocent lives, the President underscored the vital role these newly trained warriors will play in protecting the nation. Hon. Sarah Mateke, representing the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, praised Museveni’s strategic vision for ensuring the continuous training of the army. She encouraged the graduates to uphold the core values of the UPDF, emphasizing the importance of discipline and commitment.

Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, Commander of the Land Forces, who represented the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, extended his congratulations to the officers and reiterated the importance of maintaining discipline. Maj. Gen. James Birungi, Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security (CDIS) – UPDF, urged the officers to serve with humility and integrity, emphasizing that their training is focused on preventing insecurities rather than just collecting information.

Col. James Muhumuza, Commandant at the UPDF School of Military Intelligence and Security, reminded the graduates that training is an ongoing process. He encouraged them to stay updated, serve with dedication, and uphold their oath of allegiance to the nation. The ceremony concluded with the recognition of outstanding trainees, who were honored for their excellence and dedication during the course.

The event was attended by key figures, including the Director General of NEC, heads of ISO and CMI, trainers, instructors, and several civilian and religious leaders. The occasion highlighted Uganda’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities in response to evolving security challenges.
