Kotido, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has delivered wealth creation messages to the people of Karamoja at a public rally in Kotido municipality. The event aimed to inspire and motivate the Karimojong community to work hard and succeed in the wealth creation programs.
During the rally, President Museveni shared inspiring testimonies of successful Karimojong beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga programs. One of the beneficiaries, Lokong, received 1 million shillings from the PDM program and invested in green peas, harvesting 14 bags and earning 1.7 million shillings. He then bought pigs at 5% interest, demonstrating the potential for wealth creation through agriculture and livestock.
The President emphasized the importance of seeking homestead income and encouraged beneficiaries to work hard and make the most of the opportunities provided. He also announced plans to invest 100 million shillings per parish per year to support big herds and provide water.
“Karamoja is not just about agriculture; we are also promoting manufacturing and factories in the region,” President Museveni said. “We have invested in infrastructure, including electricity and roads, to support development in the region.”
The government has also allocated 500 million shillings for the PDM program in each parish, which will benefit 500 households. Beneficiaries will also receive 300 million shillings in loans, which will be repaid.
President Museveni’s visit to Karamoja is part of his ongoing efforts to promote socio-economic transformation in the region. The visit is also aimed at assessing the progress of the PDM and Emyooga programs in the region.
