The family of the late Asekenye, former ICU chairperson in Kumi, has received a donation of Shs 10 million from President Yoweri Museveni to support her burial. Hon. Hellen Christine Amongin Aporu, Minister of State for Teso Affairs, handed over the money to the grieved family on behalf of the President.
According to Amongin, President Museveni was shocked to hear about Asekenye’s demise, describing her as a dedicated mobilizer in the NRM party. The President sent the donation as a gesture of solidarity with the family, recognizing Asekenye’s significant contributions to the party.
Amongin highlighted Asekenye’s notable roles, including her work as a cadre, RDC, and secretary of the District Security Council. She also credited Asekenye with stopping the notorious Ikok groups in Kumi and lobbying for support for the reformed Ikok association. The government, she said, would follow up on Asekenye’s initiatives to ensure Ikok teams receive support and avoid dubious activities.
The Minister also revealed that Asekenye had been educating over eight schools and urged the office of Teso Affairs to provide bursaries for the affected students. Sam Mafabi, Asekenye’s husband, thanked the President for the donation, which will help the family settle debts incurred during the burial preparations.
The clan members expressed gratitude for the President’s kindness and pledged to deliver a block vote in appreciation of his support.
