Following president Museveni’s concern on the state of the welfare of journalists across various media houses in Uganda, he has showed interest in enhancing their ways of living.
The president in his recent up-country tours to assess the performance of the Wealth Creation and parish development model (PDM) , conducted several meetings with different journalist groups where he noted the tough conditions under which the press men and women are living.
While meeting with the President on Wednesday 20. November 2024, at the State Lodge in Soroti City, the Journalists the listed to the President a number of Issues affecting them in the region, ranging from the censorship of the press, poverty and low payment by their media houses.
After pledging his support of shs. 100 Million, the president also preached wealth creation amongst Journalists and pledged them a country your to farms for inspiration.
As part of his fulfilment of pledges, the president has sponsored a section of Teso and Karamoja journalists to visit to successful farms initiated under Wealth creation and Parish development model.
Mr. Samuel Odongo the Chairman of Teso Journalists on Monday afternoon told the patriot that the road to the president’s action has began by the countrywide tour to different farms under the innitiative of the wealth creation program.
“accompanied by the state House officials lead by Mr. Richard Rwamuhanga, we have started the tours by visiting two farms in Amudat district and Nakapiripirit in Karamoja, we shall spend three days visiting farms and later visit the President’s farm in Rwakitura”, he mentioned.
Adding, “we have moved with 36 journalists from different media houses in Teso, and joined by 20 colleagues of Karamoja”, he added.
Mr. Kenneth Odele, a journalist attached to NTV hailed government for the initiative to enhance the livelihoods of journalists.
