His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has granted a pardon to 19 individuals convicted of various crimes. Acting on the advice of the Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy, the President exercised his constitutional power under Article 121(1)(a) of the Constitution to give these individuals a second chance at life.
The pardoned individuals were serving sentences for offenses under the UPDF Act and the Firearms Act, including treachery and unlawful possession of ammunition. Among those who received the President’s mercy are Sssegujja Rashid, Rugumayo Robert Christopher, and Kakooza Muhuyadin, among others.
The Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Mr. Balaam, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the President for this act of clemency. He emphasized the importance of supporting these young people as they reintegrate into society, pledging his office’s commitment to assisting others in distress whenever approached.
This pardon symbolizes hope and rehabilitation, showcasing Uganda’s commitment to balancing justice with mercy.
