In a significant cabinet shake-up, President Museveni has made several key appointments, ushering in fresh faces while bidding farewell to some longstanding figures. Among the notable changes, Woman MP for Kitgum District, Lilian Aber, music promoter Balaamu Barugahara, and Principal Private Secretary, Kenneth Omona have been appointed to pivotal ministerial positions.
Aber assumes the role of Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister, overseeing Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees, while Dr Omona steps into the position of Minister of State for Northern Uganda within the same office. Meanwhile, Balaam takes on the responsibility of Minister of State for Gender, Labour, and Social Development, with a focus on Youth and Children Affairs, replacing Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, who now assumes the mantle of State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs.
Notably, Balaamu and Aber are prominent figures within the Patriotic League of Uganda, a civic movement associated with Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Senior Presidential Advisor in charge of Special Operations.
However, the reshuffle sees the departure of Vincent Bamulanzeki Ssempijja as the former State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, making way for Markson Oboth Jacob to assume the role. Likewise, Mary Goretti Kitutu, the Minister of State for Karamoja Affairs, has been replaced by Hon Peter Lokeris, while Sironko Woman MP, Florence Wamala Nambozo, steps in to replace Agnes Nandutu as State Minister for Karamoja Affairs.
In a move that has raised eyebrows, Gen Moses Ali retains his position as 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament, indicating continuity in certain key areas of governance.
This cabinet reshuffle signals President Museveni’s ongoing efforts to rejuvenate his administration and address emerging challenges, as Uganda navigates through a dynamic political landscape.
