Jinja City, 13th April, 2024 – Addressing attendees at the Busoga Diocesan St. Mary’s Day celebrations, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to development, encompassing both spiritual and material wellbeing.
Unable to attend in person due to national commitments, President Museveni delegated H.E. Jessica Alupo, Vice President of Uganda, to convey his message to the faithful of Busoga Diocese. He expressed gratitude to Bishop Paul Naimanhye for the invitation and commended the leadership of Busoga Diocese Mothers for their initiative in constructing St. Mary’s House.
President Museveni underscored the significance of addressing physical needs alongside spiritual nourishment, citing Jesus Christ’s example of ministering to both the spiritual and socio-economic needs of society. He urged religious leaders and followers to emulate this approach, emphasizing the importance of eradicating poverty and increasing household incomes.
Highlighting the prevalent subsistence farming practices in Uganda, President Museveni identified commercial agriculture, industries, services, and ICT as key sectors for wealth and job creation. He called upon leaders to guide people towards profitable ventures in these sectors, aiming to uplift households from poverty.
The President concluded by expressing gratitude to all attendees and wished them peaceful celebrations of St. Mary’s Day, urging collective efforts towards comprehensive development in Uganda.
The address signifies a collaborative effort between the government and religious institutions towards holistic development, reflecting a shared commitment to improving the lives of Ugandans.
