President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged Ugandans to reject politics of identity and instead focus on politics of interests, emphasizing that this is crucial for the country’s prosperity. He cautioned that politics of malice and hatred only lead to divisionism.
Speaking in Lango Sub-region, Museveni advised leaders to shun politics of lies, darkness, and propaganda, emphasizing the importance of unity. He highlighted his own experience, saying that he has succeeded in leadership because he has no malice against anyone.
Museveni outlined essential factors for Uganda’s success, including rejecting identity politics and instead emphasizing the politics of interests. He explained that while respecting people’s identities, the focus should be on meeting their needs, such as food, jobs, and markets for their products.
The President also praised the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) for disarming the Karamojong, leading to peace and stability in the region. He emphasized the importance of continued infrastructure development, wealth creation, and securing peace.
Additionally, Museveni advised the people of Lango to adopt modern agriculture to combat household poverty and urged leaders to focus on household income to reduce poverty. He emphasized that individual wealth creation directly benefits families.
