On 25th September, His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni visited the Royal Milk Factory in Nalukolongo, Rubaga Division, Kampala District. The factory, which is owned by the family of Omugurusi Hajji Kigoye from Masindi, has successfully expanded into the production of pasteurized milk and yoghurts, thanks to strategic partnerships and support from the government.
During his visit, President Museveni expressed his gratitude to Hajji Kigoye for heeding the government’s message on the opportunities in milk production. He praised the family’s efforts in building a successful enterprise and acknowledged the children’s role in furthering the family business.
The President assured the Royal Milk Factory of government support in their request for a UHT (Ultra-High Temperature) processing plant. However, he urged the company to carefully assess the economic feasibility of processing UHT milk, considering Uganda’s surplus production. He emphasized that powdered milk may offer a more practical solution, especially for export, due to its easier transportation and longer shelf life.
President Museveni recommended that the company conduct a thorough economic study to explore the viability of these different processing options, ensuring that they make informed decisions to sustain their growth and contribute to Uganda’s broader agricultural economy.
