Charlene Ruto, Kenya’s First Daughter and Executive Director of SMACHS Foundation, has emphasized the importance of sustainable agriculture in Uganda. During her recent visit to Abja Farms Limited in Oyam district, Charlene urged Ugandan youths and women to adopt sustainable agricultural practices to address food security and environmental challenges.
Charlene commended Abja Farms for its role in generating employment opportunities and enhancing climate resilience in the local community. Jane Frances Acilo, Oyam District Woman MP aspirant and director of Abja Farms Limited, pledged to continue empowering youth and women through sustainable agriculture practices.
The visit was also attended by local leaders, including Benson Walter Dila, LC5 chairperson of Oyam district, Kitutu Habert Federick, chief administrative officer of Oyam district, and Kocks Albino Ogwal, District Production Officer of Oyam district. They expressed their commitment to supporting farmers and addressing challenges such as the lack of electricity and climate change.
This collaboration between Kenyan and Ugandan farmers aims to foster regional development through exchange visits in agribusiness. The initiative is expected to promote sustainable agricultural practices, enhance food security, and support economic growth in the region.
