The Royal Wedding of Busoga which has already attracted the attention of the whole world is now hanging in balance after a woman who claims to be the official wife of Kyabazinga William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope has petitioned the Church of Uganda not to preside over the exchanging of marriage vows between the Busoga king and Jovia Mutesi, the chosen Inhebantu.

The woman identified as Alison Anna Nadiope, through her lawyers of Mugerwa and Partners Advocates, claims to have had a civil marriage with the Kyabazinga. She copied the letter to the Archbishop Church of Uganda, Rt Rev Stephen Kazimba Mugalu and the Bishop of Busoga Diocese who is expected to oversee the marriage vows.

Ms Anna further claims that she is legally married to Kyabazinga and they have two kids, namely; Muyise Mitchell (8) and Josephine Katali (6). The document further reads the pair celebrated their civil marriage in December, 2016 at Milldam Bunbaby House.

“This serves to notify the church of our client’s objection and request that the honorable Church of Uganda does not proceed to wed Mr William Kadhumbula Gabula the Kyabazinga of Busoga with Ms Jovia Mutesi, during the subsistence of our client’s marriage as the same would amount to bigamy and contrary to church canons,” reads the petition in part.

Ms Anna’s petition addressed to Arch Bishop Church of Uganda Rt Rev Stephen Kazimba Mugalu and the Bishop of Busoga Diocese.

Ms Persia Faith Wakabi who received the petition on behalf of the Busoga Bishop acknowledged the reception of the document saying; “Yes it is true, yesterday, I received that petition on behalf of the Busoga Bishop and I handed it over to him.”

“The rest is in the hands of the Church,” she added.

The Busoya Royal Wedding, which has already seen majority of the corporate firms, banking institutions, political and cultural institutions, plus mndividuals contribute millions of money is scheduled to take place next Saturday, November 18, at Bugembe Grounds in Jina City.
