In a case that gripped Soroti City and captured national attention, the tumultuous saga involving 17-year-old Anselm Eyagu has reached its conclusion. Last week, a disturbing video surfaced across social media platforms, depicting Anselm being assaulted by a group of peers who accused him of theft. Filmed at Gardens Nest, a popular Soroti hangout, the footage sparked widespread outrage, intrigue, and debate about the appropriate course of action.
Following a fervent call for justice spearheaded by Caroline Apecho and George William Okoit, Anselm was located and promptly reported the incident to Soroti Central Police Station on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024. Subsequently, Isaac Otai, Omio Sam, and Zadock, identified as persons of interest, were apprehended to aid in the investigation.
Today, on May 6th, 2024, the case file was officially transferred from Soroti City Central Police Station to the East Kyoga Regional Police Headquarters, pending witness statements.
George William Okoit revealed that a constructive dialogue took place between the parents of the accused and Anselm, resulting in a mutually agreed-upon compensation package. This agreement, intended to cover Anselm’s incurred expenses, including medical bills, signifies a step towards resolution.
There really can be no peace without justice. There can be no justice without truth. And there can be no truth, unless someone rises up to tell you the truth.
As of the time of this article all accused individuals were released.
