GWERI: 09.09.2024
Achan Irene Tracy, known as Agamiat, was born in Adamasiko village, Adamasiko parish in Gweri County.
She comes from a family rooted in public service and political mobilization. Her father, the late Mr. Omoding Patrick, was a Senior Police Officer, while her mother, Toto Akello Matilda, is a dedicated NRM mobilizer in Soroti for decades.
Toto Matilda’s efforts were instrumental in rallying crowds to support NRM candidates and ensuring the President retained his seat.
Who is Irene Tracy Achan?
Achan has inherited her mother’s talent for mobilization. Down to earth and approachable, she can easily connect with people from all walks of life.
Her simplicity and genuine care makes her a popular figure, and now she is turning her attention to politics.
Her education began at Amoroto Primary School in Awaliwal Sub County but was interrupted by the Teso insurgency. She continued her studies at Nabuyonga Primary School in Mbale, where her father was stationed, and later completed her O’ Level at Elgon High School.
For A’ Level, she attended Mackay Memorial College Nateete, where she was elected Head Girl.
Though she was admitted to Makerere University for a degree in Urban Planning, she declined the offer, opting instead to pursue her passion for journalism at Uganda Management Institute.
Her career in media is impressive, having worked as a journalist and presenter at Voice of Teso, station manager at Arua One FM, and news editor at Radio Pacis.
She was also the chief news editor at Lira Media Center and a trainer for parish social communicators in Arua and Lira dioceses.
Her media experience culminated in a role as a senior presenter at Mama Bukedea.
Inspired by her work with politicians like Captain Mike Mukula, Hon. Nusura Tiperu, and the Speaker of Parliament, Achan Irene Tracy now feels ready to take on a political role herself.
She sees politics as a way to serve her community directly, building on the legacy of her mother’s mobilization efforts. Her goal is to improve development and service delivery in Gweri, promising to be accessible to her constituents and responsive to their needs.
For her, the move to politics is a natural progression. She has long been a voice for the voiceless on the radio, and now she seeks to bring that voice to Parliament.
Despite any competition from other parties, she is focused on the development of Gweri and remains committed to representing her people with the same passion she has shown throughout her career.
