Serere District’s official parliamentary flag bearers made a heartfelt visit to Serere Health Center IV on Tuesday afternoon, where they checked on survivors of a tragic accident that occurred the previous day along the Ocaapa-Kyere road. The delegation also expressed their deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased, Emmanuel Olupot, who tragically lost his life in the crash.
The accident involved residents who were traveling to back to their homes after welcoming President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during his campaign visit to Serere District. What was intended to be a moment of celebration quickly turned into sorrow, as news of the fatal incident spread throughout the community. The injured victims, many of whom suffered severe wounds, are now under close medical care at Serere Health Center IV, where health workers continue to monitor their conditions diligently.
The late Olupot’s body was later transferred to Bethesda Hospital for management before burial arrangements commenced. As his family and friends grapple with the loss, local leaders and community members have surrounded them with emotional and spiritual support.
The visiting team of leaders included Hon. Hellen Adoa, Minister of State for Fisheries and Serere District flag bearer; Hon. Omoding Emmanuel, MP for Serere County; Hon. Philip Oucor, official flag bearer for Pingire County; and Hon. Emaju Peter Paul, official flag bearer for Kasilo County. Their mission was not only to console the victims and their families but also to stand with the health workers who have shown remarkable commitment in the wake of the tragedy.
In a show of goodwill and solidarity, the flag bearers contributed a collective sum of 3 million Ugandan shillings—1 million to support the hospitalized victims and 2 million to cover the costs associated with Olupot’s body management at Bethesda.
Speaking to the media on behalf of the group, Hon. Philip Oucor expressed heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and called upon the public to continue praying for the injured. He reaffirmed the leaders’ readiness to remain by the side of the affected families during this difficult time.
“We are here to support our people and check on the other victims. As leaders, we are going to be with these families until they are fully restored. I am assuring them that we shall offer any kind of support needed. Our presence here today shows how serious and committed we are,” Hon. Oucor stated.
President Museveni’s campaign rally in Serere attracted thousands of enthusiastic supporters from across the district. Yet, the tragic road accident cast a shadow over the day’s celebrations, prompting concerns about road safety and emergency response systems in the region.
Local authorities have confirmed that police investigations are underway and a formal report will be released soon. Meanwhile, Serere continues to mourn a district shaken but united in grief and hope.

As the district prays for healing, the collective support of leaders, health workers, and the community offers a glimmer of strength and solidarity amid the sorrow.
