Lira, Uganda – Lira University has suspended seven students for one academic year due to examination malpractice. The disciplinary action was announced by the Academic Registrar, Geoffrey Angela, and the Lira University Quality Assurance, Timetable, and Examinations Committee (QATEC) on March 2, 2025.
The affected students will miss classes until Semester II of the 2025/2026 academic year. The students suspended include Akello Sharon, Akite Florence Omara, Atala Caroline, Obete Maxwell, Okello Dick, Okello Pius, and Odongo Emmanuel.
Akello Sharon, a student in the Science and Vocational Studies department, Faculty of Education, was found guilty of contravening Section 5.2 (a) (i) of the Examination Rules and Regulations. As a result, Sharon’s examination results for EAG 2105 – Agricultural Research Design and Biometrics have been canceled. Sharon will have to retake the canceled exam after serving the penalty and report to the Dean of Students’ Office for counseling before resuming studies.
Akite Florence Omara, a Distance Learning student in the Faculty of Education, was also found guilty of contravening Section 5.2 (a) (i) of the Examination Rules and Regulations. Omara’s examination results for EHS 3102 – Nationalism in Africa up to 1963 have been canceled, and Omara will have to retake the canceled exam after serving the penalty.
Atala Caroline, another Distance Learning student in the Faculty of Education, was suspended for one academic year until Semester II, 2025/2026, after being found guilty of contravening Section 5.2 (a) (i) of the Examination Rules and Regulations. Caroline’s examination results for EES 3105 – Company Law have been canceled, and Caroline will have to retake the canceled exam after serving the penalty.
Obete Maxwell, a student in the Commerce and Business department, Faculty of Management Sciences, was suspended for one academic year until Semester II, 2025/2026, after being found guilty of contravening Section 5.2 (a) (i) of the Examination Rules and Regulations. Maxwell’s examination results for BBA 2104 – Elements of Taxation have been canceled, and Maxwell will have to retake the canceled exam after serving the penalty.
Okello Dick, a Distance Learning student in the Faculty of Education, was suspended for one academic year until Semester II, 2025/2026, after being found guilty of contravening Section 5.2 (a) (i) of the Examination Rules and Regulations. Dick’s examination results for EPS 2103 – Classical Mechanics have been canceled, and Dick will have to retake the canceled exam after serving the penalty.
Okello Pius, a student in the Commerce and Business department, Faculty of Management Sciences, was suspended for one academic year until Semester I, 2025/2026, after being found guilty of contravening Section 5.2 (a) (i) of the Examination Rules and Regulations.
Odongo Emmanuel, a student in the Commerce and Business department, Faculty of Management Sciences, was suspended for one academic year until Semester I, 2025/2026, after being found guilty of contravening Section 5.2 (ix) of the Examination Rules and Regulations.
The Academic Registrar, Geoffrey Angela, has issued a stern warning to all students to familiarize themselves with the Examination Rules and Regulations to avoid similar consequences. The university remains committed to maintaining academic integrity and will continue to enforce strict measures against examination malpractice.
