Napak District, Uganda – February 23, 2025 – A powerful windstorm swept through Matany Town Council in Napak District today, causing extensive damage, including the complete destruction of the residence of Retired Lt. Col. Matayo Longole. The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:00 AM, highlights the growing impact of extreme weather events attributed to climate change.
Eyewitnesses described the winds as unusually strong, tearing off roofs and leaving several structures in ruins. Longole’s home suffered the worst impact, displacing him and his family. The disaster underscores the vulnerability of communities in Uganda to erratic weather patterns, which experts link to global climate change.
Local leaders and humanitarian organizations are urging swift intervention to support Longole and others affected. Contributions in the form of financial aid or essential supplies are highly encouraged.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage and working on mitigation strategies to bolster resilience against such climate-related disasters in the future.
This event serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for sustainable climate adaptation measures to safeguard communities from increasingly unpredictable and severe weather conditions.
