Sam Onek, a 30-year-old resident of Opati B Cell in Atek Ward, Minakulu Town Council, Oyam District, has been disciplined following allegations of assaulting his parents on their matrimonial bed.
The incident, which occurred late last night, reportedly left his parents with serious injuries.
Silbina Ogwal, Onek’s mother, tearfully recounted the ordeal, pleading for intervention from the Mwa Otiratok clan leaders.
She expressed fears that her son’s actions might escalate into something even more dangerous in the future.
When questioned, Onek admitted to the assault, attributing his actions to frustrations over his parents’ failure to arrange a marriage for him. He apologized and pledged to reform his behavior.
Geoffrey Okech Oming, the Clan Chief in charge of youth affairs, confirmed the incident with deep disappointment.
As a disciplinary measure, Onek was subjected to 50 strokes and fined 50,000 Ugandan shillings. Oming urged clan members, especially the youth, to resolve conflicts peacefully and avoid violence, which could lead to imprisonment.
In accordance with Lango tradition, such acts of assault on parents in their matrimonial bed require ritual practices, locally known as tumu kir, to prevent future incidents.
