A boda boda rider has been arrested on murder allegations after slapping a visibly intoxicated pedestrian who was walking unsteadily at 10:00 pm at Agama Moru Trading Centre, Soroti City West Division.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nachuha Damali, Regional Police Commander for East Kyoga, the incident occurred when Ekanu Samuel encountered Ekuju Anthony, 45, a resident of Ajumula Cell, Agama Ward, Soroti City West Division, who was walking unsteadily along the road on October 30, 2024. Upset by Ekuju’s erratic movements, Ekanu parked his motorcycle, approached Ekuju, and delivered a hard slap that caused him to fall onto a hard surface, resulting in a severe head injury.
The incident was reported by Eripu Denis, a driver and resident of Ajumula “A” Cell, Agama Ward, Soroti City West Division. Ekuju was rushed to Joint Clinic for medical attention but succumbed to his injuries around 3:00 am. His body was later transferred to Bethesda Hospital for a postmortem examination.
A police team led by D/ASP Lwembawo Stephen, the D/CID, and the SOCO team visited the crime scene for investigations. ACP Nachuha Damali confirmed that the suspect is in custody for questioning. Once investigations are complete, Ekanu Samuel will be presented in court and charged with murder.
