The controversial Soroti Fruit Factory Popularly known as Teju has finally resumed its operations with an urgent demand of 1 million kilograms of oranges, the management has confirmed.
The grappling factory recently dominated both local and National media when information exploded that government was in plan to hand it into private hands after it went to comer due to its poor performance.
Julius Ekomu the Chief Executive Officer of the Factory revealed that the factory has resumed the processing of Orange concentrates to provide the potential market for oranges currently flooded across the citrus farms in the region.
“The factory now consumes a tune of 60 Metric tons per day, meaning that if given one month, we can be able to consume 1000 Metric tons of oranges.” he said.
Ekomu further revealed that the factory is currently stack with the concentrates made in the year 2019 worthy 230 Kilograms.
He also refuted rumors circulating that the factory had rejected processing the oranges produced by the Teso farmers hence using the imported concentrates.
Speaking to the farmers at the Factory premises, the board Chairman of the Factory Mr. Francis Onapito Ekomoloit however revealed that the factory is currently grappling with challenges of market domestically.
“Most of the population in Teso have not been consuming their own products from this factory and the task we have as the new management is to expedite the positivity of consuming the juice domestically.” he said.
Adding, “We shall now focus on encouraging the area locals from the Teso districts to rapidly consume the juice and this I believe will turn around the story of this factory.”
Atotal number of 700 farmers from 13 districts have been tallied as current beneficiaries, however the factory targets to benefit a total number of 2778 citrus farmers.
