Municipal Secondary School in Soroti has taken top honors in the VEX robotics competition organized by the Uganda Robotics League, held in Jinja on March 12, 2025. The event brought together some of the brightest young minds from schools in Jinja, Soroti, and Kampala, all vying for the coveted title.
The competition, part of the Uganda Robotics League’s efforts to promote STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in the country, saw teams of students design, build, and program robots to perform specific tasks.
Municipal Secondary School’s team, comprising Rwotomiyo Samuel, Opio Benjamin, Odongo Joseph, Mbabazi Esther, Among Babra, Otim Joshua, Ogabe Jonathan, Akolu Gideon, Asekenye Esther, and Amajo Flavia, demonstrated exceptional skill and ingenuity. They impressed the judges with their robot’s speed, agility, and precision. The team was led by Moses Opio (Team Coach) and Amulen Christine (Chaperone).
“We are thrilled to have won this competition,” said Opio Moses (Team Coach). “It’s a testament to our team’s hard work, dedication, and passion for robotics. We’re grateful for the opportunity to participate and can’t wait to take on new challenges.”
The Uganda Robotics League competition aims to inspire and motivate students to pursue careers in STEM fields, critical to Uganda’s economic growth and development. Municipal Secondary School’s win is a shining example of what can be achieved with determination and teamwork.
“We won a trophy and medals, which will be used to inspire others and lift the pride of Teso,” said the team.
