At the recent Lokiriama Peace Accord celebrations and the East African Community (EAC) peace caravan in Lokichogio, Kenya and Narus South Sudan, Ms. Caroline Angolere, Special Presidential Assistant to the President of Uganda on Political Affairs and Team Leader for Karacuna Peace Movement, was part of the Ugandan delegation led by Moroto RDC, Ms. Jane Francis Okili. The caravan aimed to promote peace, socioeconomic transformation, and peaceful coexistence among the Turkana of Kenya, Karamojong of Uganda, and Toposa of South Sudan.

Ms. Angolere emphasized teamwork in achieving lasting peace and encouraged reformed warriors (Karacuna) to share their transformative experiences supported by President Museveni. Her peace efforts have been recognized and emulated by the Turkana government, collaborating with CSOs like the County Government of Turkana, Lotus Kenya, and Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH) under the SPRALEA II program.
A highlight of this initiative was the financial support of Ksh 2.5 million given to 100 reformed warriors from Turkana villages to start businesses. This funding, presented at a Lokiriama ceremony attended by County Secretary Peter Eripete and ACC David Olouch, offers a sustainable alternative to cattle rustling.it should be noted that the funding and grants of this colourful event was done by the Turkana Government and development partners.

“This initiative provides a practical alternative to cattle rustling and should be encouraged as a sustainable solution,” said Eripete, noting the beneficiaries’ enthusiasm and the need for program expansion.
Augustine Kai Lope of Lotus Kenya highlighted that the beneficiaries came from regions like Loya and Lokiriama, stressing that training and grants are vital to peacebuilding and reaffirming partners’ commitment to peace.
