The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, praised the State Minister of Industry, Hon. David Bahati, on Wednesday, commending him for his active role as an Executive member who consistently participates in Parliament and engages in fieldwork to promote industrialization and address general trade issues.
Responding to an online article alleging that she had rebuked Minister Bahati as an incompetent minister for failing to resolve the standoff with traders, the Speaker denounced it as false and malicious.
“The article is false, untrue, and malicious. Hon David Bahati is one minister who is permanently here, a very active minister. So how can you attack such a minister?” wondered the Speaker.
She urged the Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) to investigate Swipe News Uganda, the publisher of the false and malicious article.
“I want the UCC to investigate this. There are people who are monopolizing the use of social media to destroy others,” she emphasized.
The UCC is constitutionally mandated to regulate media activities in Uganda.
Hon. David Bahati, known as one of the most present members of the Government front bench in Parliament, presented three Bills on Wednesday alone: The Warehouse Receipt System (Amendment) Bill, 2024; The Uganda Export Promotions Board Act (Repeal) Bill, 2024; and The Free Zones (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
