During a recent graduation ceremony at Gweri Vocational Training School, Stephen Ejoku, the CEO of Ejoku Foundation and the incoming LCV Chairperson for Soroti District under the NRM ticket for 2026-31, emphasized the importance of technical education in combating unemployment among educated youth in the Teso sub-region.
Over 60 students graduated from Gweri Vocational Training School with various professional skills such as tailoring and carpentry. Ejoku highlighted the significance of vocational education in providing practical skills and hands-on training that can be readily applied in the workplace, thereby addressing the skills gap in the job market.
“Hands-on learning through vocational education equips students with the necessary skills to succeed in their careers,” said Ejoku. He emphasized that this approach not only opens up a wide range of career opportunities but also fosters lifelong learning and career development.
Moreover, Ejoku emphasized the role of vocational education in supporting economic growth and development at both individual and community levels. As part of his commitment to environmental sustainability, Ejoku also planted various species of trees during the ceremony, echoing his previous efforts at Gweri Secondary School.
Ejoku’s advocacy for technical education serves as a timely reminder of the importance of equipping the youth with practical skills to thrive in today’s competitive job market while contributing to the overall development of communities in the Teso sub-region.
