LIRA CITY, UGANDA – A significant breakthrough has been reported in the investigation into the murder of Angom Betty, whose body was discovered at Providence Guest House in Lira City over a month ago. Police have announced that one of three suspects in custody has confessed to strangling the victim.
According to a progressive report issued today by SP PJ Okema, the Police Public Relations Officer for North Kyoga, the incident occurred on April 28th, 2025, at the guest house located along Oyite Ojok Lane. The crime was reported to Lira City Central Police Station (CPS) on April 30th.
Police investigations led to the arrests of three suspects:
1. Oyuku Walter
2. Akello Sarah
3. Owino Oscar (also known as Akwanga Oscar)
All suspects were interviewed and their statements recorded during the course of the investigation.
The report states a critical development: Owino Oscar (Akwanga Oscar), arrested most recently on June 2nd, 2025, confessed to strangling Angom Betty.
“One Owino Oscar aka Akwanga who had been arrested last on the 2nd June 2025 confessed to have strangled the deceased Angom Betty,” SP Okema confirmed in the official statement.
Following the confession and the compilation of evidence, police files detailing the case have been submitted to the Resident State Attorney (RCSA) for legal review and advice. This is a crucial step before potential charges can be formally laid and the case proceeds to court.
SP Okema concluded the report by assuring the public of the police’s ongoing commitment: “We continue to assure the public and pledged our commitment to seeing that justice prevails.”
The confession marks a pivotal moment in the investigation into Angom Betty’s death. The public now awaits the legal guidance from the RCSA and the subsequent steps in the judicial process.
