Kampala, Uganda – August 14, 2024: Veteran political commentator and media personality, Tamale Mirundi, has passed away at the age of 64. The news of his death was confirmed by his close friend and fellow political commentator, Frank Gashumba.
Mirundi, who had been admitted to Kisubi Hospital in July, was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after his health deteriorated. Despite earlier reports of his improving condition, including a hopeful statement from Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, who visited him in the hospital, Mirundi’s health took a turn for the worse.
Barugahara had previously expressed optimism about Mirundi’s recovery, thanking the medical team at Kisubi Hospital and praising the unwavering support of Mirundi’s family. However, on July 23, Mirundi’s son, Mirundi Junior, revealed that his father had been tube-fed and had not spoken since his admission.
Tamale Mirundi was known for his outspoken and often controversial views, which made him a prominent figure in Uganda’s media landscape. His death marks the end of an era in Ugandan political commentary. He is survived by his wife and children.
