Kotido District is abuzz with excitement as residents prepare to celebrate Tarehe Sita, a significant event commemorating Uganda’s struggle for freedom and democracy. Led by RDC Charles Ichogor, the celebrations promise to be a memorable occasion, promoting peace, unity, and community engagement.
The event, which is part of the country’s 44th Tarehe Sita anniversary celebrations, aims to reaffirm the district’s commitment to freedom, democracy, and socio-economic transformation. The RDC’s remarks emphasized the importance of honoring the past while looking towards a brighter future.
“I want to thank UPDF for promoting peace in our district,” RDC Charles Ichogor said. “We must continue to work together to achieve our goals and promote socio-economic transformation. The four pillars of NRM – democracy, nationalism, pan-Africanism, and socio-economic transformation – are the foundation of our district’s development.”
Commander 43 Battalion Col. Kaffureka also gave remarks, emphasizing the importance of peace and stability. “We must continue to work together to maintain peace and stability in our district,” he said. “The UPDF is committed to protecting our citizens and promoting peace and security.”
LCV Lotee Paul Komol, also known as Kacheri Boy, praised the army for maintaining peace and acknowledged the presence of district stakeholders, armed forces, students, and the community.
The celebrations will feature a range of activities, including football matches, medical checkups, and a blood donation drive. The community has come together to clean various areas, showcasing their dedication to unity and progress.
The cleaning exercise, which took place on the eve of the celebrations, saw residents from all walks of life come together to clean the hospital, main market, Entebbe area, and Kotido main street.
As the nation marks this significant milestone, Kotido District is proud to be part of the celebrations. With its rich history and cultural heritage, the district is poised to play a vital role in Uganda’s continued growth and development.

Tarehe Sita, which translates to “6th day” in Swahili, commemorates the day when the National Resistance Army (NRA) launched an armed rebellion against the government of Milton Obote on February 6, 1981.
