It’s barely been a month since Teddy Anyuk Osire declared her candidacy for the Member of Parliament seat in Orungo County, and already, she is making waves and garnering support for her leadership vision. As the Director of Starlight SS Amuria and a well-known businesswoman in the region, Anyuk has quickly begun to make her mark, implementing initiatives aimed at transforming the constituency.
According to Anyuk, her political journey is focused on uplifting the people of Orungo, addressing the pressing issues that continue to plague the area, including access to clean and safe water, education, health care, roads, and empowering saving groups that drive social and economic transformation.
“Orungo has suffered for many years since it was made a constituency. Its demands have often gone unheard. Our struggles have been discussed on various platforms, including on the radio, and that’s why we must rise and demand change. I am contesting for this position because we are tired of suffering,” Anyuk said.
She continued, “It would take a day for me to list all the challenges we face. For instance, a mother in Orungo does not experience the benefits of education. After educating her child, she has no idea what comes next or how life will unfold. I am running to get my people out of poverty by bringing developmental projects, especially for the youth.” Anyuk said
Unlike in other constituencies, things are starting to look different in Orungo since Anyuk announced her candidacy. Notably, about 1,000 chairs and 4,000 plates on the demand of the locals have already been delivered to the seven sub-counties, a move that had once been unimaginable for the electorate.

As Anyuk’s political journey begins to take shape, tensions are rising among locals, especially as they wonder whether she will be able to challenge the long-standing incumbent, Gen. Abubakar Jejje Odongo, the current Uganda Minister of Foreign Affairs. Odongo has represented Orungo County for nearly ten years and has made significant contributions to foreign affairs, though his impact on his local constituents is often questioned.
Earlier today, Anyuk joined a community mobilization effort to repair the potholes that have made movement along the Orungo-Atirir Road increasingly difficult. She pledged to work on the road, ensuring it gets the necessary maram to improve its condition. She also emphasized her determination to work on local connecting roads that will facilitate clear trade, allowing the local people to improve their livelihoods.
With her grassroots efforts gaining traction, Anyuk is positioning herself as a true advocate for the people of Orungo, determined to bring real change to a constituency that has been overlooked for far too long.
