The Teso region has been struck with deep sorrow following the untimely death of Olila John, a respected journalist at KVR Radio Station in Soroti. John passed away after suffering an asthma attack, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to truthful reporting and community empowerment.
Mr. Opio, Chairman of the Teso Journalists for Community Empowerment (TEJFOCE), an umbrella organization uniting media personalities across the region, led tributes to the late journalist. “John was not just a colleague but a dedicated community leader who used his platform to raise awareness on crucial local issues. His passing is a great loss to both the media industry and the entire Teso community,” Mr. Opio remarked, joining the family, fellow journalists, and the community in mourning.
John Olila was a key figure at KVR Radio, a station operated by the Soroti Catholic Diocese, and was known for his professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his work. His contributions to the media and his role in empowering the local community made him a trusted voice across Teso.
John Ogulei, a close colleague and friend, shared heartfelt words of tribute: “John was more than just a colleague—he was a mentor, a brother, and a friend to many of us. His sudden loss has left us in shock. We ask everyone to remember his family in their prayers during this difficult time.”
The body of the late Olila John is currently at Bethesda Hospital in Soroti City, where it remains as further arrangements are made. As the community grapples with this devastating loss, Mr. Opio and his fellow journalists called on everyone to keep the Olila family in their thoughts and prayers.
