HRH Raphael Otaya, the cultural leader of the Kumam people in Uganda, has been invited to attend the prestigious All-Africa Human Rights Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, from March 18 to 20, 2025. The conference is part of the 18th Youth for Human Rights World Educational Tour, which seeks to advance human rights education globally.
Under the theme “Education for Peace,” the conference will highlight key international frameworks, including the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights, and the 2024 UNESCO Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights, and Sustainable Development.
HRH Raphael Otaya is scheduled to speak during the Conclusion Session on March 20, sharing insights on cultural leadership and its role in fostering human rights and peace. His participation follows his recent collaboration with Aido Network International, a platform dedicated to promoting cultural heritage, leadership, and human rights across Africa.
The conference will offer dynamic engagements, empowering young people to actively contribute to human rights discussions and develop sustainable peacebuilding initiatives. According to Dr. Mary Shuttleworth, President of United for Human Rights, the event aims to inspire and equip the next generation of leaders to advocate for human rights and peace education across Africa.
A gathering of young leaders, cultural figures, and representatives from the UN, AU, and advocacy organizations, the All-Africa Human Rights Conference is a landmark event for human rights education and activism. HRH Raphael Otaya will attend alongside African royal delegations under the Ateker International Development Organisation (AIDO Network), further strengthening the global recognition of the Kumam cultural union within the AIDO network.
