Richard Elimu, Gweri County’s NRM yellow boy, spearheaded a transformative seminar focusing on patriotism, career guidance, and mentorship for secondary school students across Gweri County, Soroti District.
In collaboration with Growing Ugandans and Raising Uganda Sustainably (GURUs), the event gathered over 1,500 students from Awoja High School, Ave Maria SS, Awaliwal Seed School, and Gweri SS (host school). The initiative aimed to instill a deep sense of patriotism while equipping students with essential skills and knowledge to navigate their academic and professional journeys.
Patriotism was a central theme, with speakers emphasizing the importance of love for country and responsibility towards community development. Elimu and GURUs encouraged students to view their education and careers not just as personal achievements but as tools to contribute to national progress. This approach highlighted the role of patriotism in shaping responsible citizens dedicated to building a stronger Uganda.
In line with this, GURUs offered scholarships to disadvantaged students, reinforcing the idea that every child, regardless of background, deserves the opportunity to contribute to their country’s future. The event also benefited over 80 teachers, enhancing their ability to instill patriotic values alongside academic and career guidance.
Parents praised Elimu’s dedication to fostering both educational development and national pride in Gweri. His initiative underscores the importance of patriotism in shaping future leaders who are not only skilled but also committed to the betterment of their country and community.
