The Minister for Presidency, Hon. Milly Babirye Babalanda, has announced that Lyantonde District will host the 36th National Heroes’ Day celebrations on June 9th. The event will be held at Lyantonde Technical Institute in Kaaliro Town Council, under the theme “The Legacy and Ideals of Our Heroes: A Memorable Inspiration.”
According to Minister Babalanda, Lyantonde was chosen for its pivotal role in the 1981-1986 liberation struggle, serving as a transit route for recruits and a corridor for brave young men and women who joined the bush war. She noted that the people of Lyantonde supported the NRA/M struggle and have consistently backed the NRM government, with the district voting overwhelmingly for NRM in past general elections.
During the celebrations, 50 heroes will be awarded medals, and H.E. Rtd. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will preside over the event as the chief guest. Minister Babalanda emphasized the significance of Heroes Day, encouraging citizens to reflect on the sacrifices of those who came before them. She urged all Ugandans to attend the celebrations in Lyantonde.
Hajjat Zamina Marole outlined the procedures for awarding the medals.
