KAGADI: Hundreds of believers gathered today in Kagadi district to honor what would have been the 95th birthday of Omugurusi Desteo Bisaka, the founder of the Faith of Unity. The celebrations began with processions through Muhooro town to commemorate Bisaka, who passed away on January 13, 2021.
In a speech delivered by Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, President Yoweri Museveni praised Bisaka as a remarkable religious leader whose teachings continue to inspire and guide his followers. Museveni highlighted Bisaka’s selflessness, wisdom, and dedication to his community, urging believers to emulate his example. He also emphasized the importance of religious freedom under the National Resistance Movement (NRM), noting the tolerant atmosphere that allows different religious groups to co-exist in Uganda.
The president acknowledged Bisaka’s efforts in promoting good morals and discipline among his followers and mobilizing them to support government programs aimed at socio-economic transformation. He thanked the followers for celebrating Bisaka’s 95th birthday and contributed Shs30 million in cash towards the event.
Vice President Alupo commended Bisaka for promoting unity in diversity, a principle of the NRM, stating that unity fosters prosperity and national development. Omwekwenda Akugizibwe Bisaka expressed gratitude to President Museveni for his leadership and pledged to continue promoting unity among all people, regardless of tribal and religious differences.
The celebration underscored Bisaka’s enduring legacy and reinforced the values of unity and community dedication that he championed throughout his life.
