A tragic accident claimed the life of a 7-year-old pupil earlier today in Opuyo Ward, Omaleria, just 1km from Soroti High School. Johnathan Eriku, a student at St. Enock Nursery and Primary School, was killed on the spot when a taxi knocked him down.
Another child, Akola Vivian, also aged 7 and a fellow pupil, sustained critical injuries in the incident. She was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment.
The vehicle involved, a white Hiace taxi with registration number UBH 305Z, fled the scene following the accident. The driver remains at large, leaving behind a devastated community.
The acting police spokesperson for East Kyoga, Edison Obukulem, confirmed the incident and assured that a thorough investigation is underway to track down the driver and hold those responsible accountable.
Local authorities are urging anyone with information on the driver’s whereabouts to come forward to assist the investigation.
