Maracha District.
The 31 parishes in Maracha Constituency, Maracha District which were organized to play a football competition dubbed “Uhuru Cup” have finally been concluded and trophies awarded to Parish clubs that emerged victorious.
The football tournament which was initiated and facilitated by Maracha Constituency MP Aspirant Mr Uhuru Nelson, is aimed at identifying young people talented in the sports sector for higher opportunities was launched on 22-August-2024 with distribution of 8 trophies and 62 footballs to the 31 parishes in the Constituency.
Eyotre Joseph, one of the people coordinating the football competition averred that, much as the football tournament was initiated and facilitated by Maracha Constituency MP Aspirant Mr Uhuru Nelson, it is none political and partisan as its focus is on identifying and rejuvenating the talents of young people in the sports sector.
Vetting officer in the football tournament, Ramathan Nasur Ande who was the former coach for UPDF Fourth division, while appreciating Uhuru Nelson for the initiative to organize such events, described the quality of football match been played as superb.
Mr Yikita Derrick the manager for Otravu Tigers FC, which is one of the clubs that won the Uhuru Cup trophies, attributed their success to hardwork and routine training of the players.
The organizers said, upon conclusion of the Uhuru Cup tournament at Parish level, the clubs at the parish level will form the team at Sub-county level, upon which, if concluded successfully, the clubs will then be qualified for other big leagues.
