A large number of patients suffering from hernias, eye infections, and other conditions requiring surgery gathered at Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital for a health camp organized by the Turkish-based organization, Çare Doktorları. The camp, which began last weekend, was made possible through the efforts of Hon. Avako Melisa Neima, the Woman MP for Yumbe District, who facilitated the partnership.
Mr. Miso Onesmus, the principal thermo-clinical officer heading the Eye Department at Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital, expressed his gratitude to Hon. Avako Melisa for connecting the hospital with Çare Doktorları. He also urged the public to undergo regular check-ups to monitor their health.
Gule Fred, a patient from Koboko District, shared his story of living with a hernia for nearly 21 years, describing the pain he endured and the relief he felt after receiving successful surgery during the camp.
Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Yumbe District, Mathew Vuni Vuyaya, praised the efforts of Çare Doktorları, emphasizing that healthcare knows no boundaries and commending the organization for improving service delivery in Uganda.
Hon. Avako Melisa Neima explained that after being elected in 2021, she submitted a concept note to the Turkish embassy outlining the healthcare challenges faced by Yumbe District and the West Nile region. This caught the attention of Çare Doktorları, a nonprofit organization in Turkey, which provided support and funding for the health camp.
Alongside offering medical care, the organization donated medical equipment and supplies valued at over 500 million UGX to Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital, benefiting patients not only from the West Nile region but also from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
