Kampala, Uganda – A team of Ugandan legislators has been flagged off to Kenya to participate in the East African Parliamentary Games, aimed at fostering integration and unity among East African Community (EAC) member states.
The team, comprising Members of Parliament from Uganda, was officially flagged off by the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Anita Among, and the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, in Kampala.
In her remarks, Speaker Among encouraged the team to actively participate in the games, emphasizing that sports can effectively champion the shared vision of a united and prosperous East Africa.
“The East African Parliamentary Games are an excellent opportunity for us to promote integration, unity, and cooperation among EAC member states,” Speaker Among said. “I urge our team to participate fully and make Uganda proud.”
The 14th Edition of the EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games will take place in Mombasa, Kenya, and will feature various sports disciplines, including athletics, basketball, football, and golf. Uganda is seeking to defend its title in the games, having dominated previous editions.
The games are part of the EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games, which bring together representatives from six member states: South Sudan, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Kenya, alongside lawmakers from the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
The Ugandan team is expected to return home on December 17, after the conclusion of the games
