The Vice President of Uganda, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, has arrived in South Africa to represent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the inauguration ceremony of H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, the newly elected president of South Africa. The ceremony marks Ramaphosa’s swearing-in for a second term in office.
Upon arrival at Oliver Tambo International Airport, Vice President Alupo was officially received by Hon. Ronald Ozzy Lamola, South Africa’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Services, who is a member of the African National Congress (ANC), and Uganda’s Ambassador to South Africa, Paul Amoru. In her welcoming remarks, Alupo congratulated South Africa on successfully forming a government following a peaceful election.
Cyril Ramaphosa’s re-election was secured last week when lawmakers reaffirmed his presidency. This followed a coalition agreement between his party, the African National Congress (ANC), and the Democratic Alliance (DA), along with other parties. The coalition marks a significant political development, bringing together long-time rivals to form a unified government.
The inauguration ceremony is set to take place in the capital city of Pretoria and is expected to be attended by numerous heads of state and dignitaries from around the world. The event underscores the importance of international diplomatic relations and the peaceful transition of power in South Africa, a key player in the African continent’s political landscape.
As Vice President Alupo participates in this significant event, it highlights Uganda’s commitment to maintaining strong bilateral relations with South Africa and supporting democratic processes across the continent.
