declared his intention to contest for the position of NRM Publicity Secretary for Oyam District in the upcoming 2026–2031 term.
His announcement has stirred positive reactions across the district, with many community members and leaders describing him as the most suitable candidate for the role.
Olang, currently serving as News Editor at Unity FM Lira, brings over 10 years of experience in journalism, media strategy, and community mobilization.
His proven ability to communicate effectively and shape public discourse has earned him wide recognition within and beyond the Lango sub-region.
Holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration and Management from Lira University (2024) and a Diploma in Mass Communication and Journalism from Makerere Institute (2014), Olang’s academic and professional background positions him as a communication strategist with a strong grasp of both policy and grassroots dynamics.
One senior NRM leader in Oyam noted that Olang’s credentials clearly reflect his readiness for the position and added that he has a deep understanding of media, public messaging, and how to connect the people with the party.
Throughout his career, Olang has demonstrated competence in public relations, crisis communication, newsroom management, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and content creation.
Under his editorial leadership, Unity FM Lira has increased its focus on development journalism, civic education, and inclusive reporting.
He is widely credited with streamlining Unity FM’s news production and expanding its coverage to underserved communities.
As NRM gears up for grassroots reorganization and renewed visibility ahead of 2026, many see Olang as the right fit to revamp the district’s publicity machinery
His supporters believe he possesses both the technical expertise and ideological alignment needed to communicate the party’s vision of socio-economic transformation.
Olang’s bid, however, will not go unchallenged. He will be facing Philips Ogile Jakayo, the current LCIII Chairperson of Abok Sub county, who also seeks to become NRM’s chief communicator in the district.
While Jakayo’s administrative experience is acknowledged, observers have pointed out that Olang’s deep grounding in media and messaging gives him a distinct edge in a role that demands strategic communication skills.
In his current role, Olang has spearheaded initiatives that link communities with government programs.
He is particularly known for hosting forums on health, education, and governance, helping demystify public policy through accessible language on radio.
Leaders and voters in Oyam are now closely watching the race, with many urging the party to prioritize competence, dedication, and professional background in selecting its publicity secretary.
Bismark Olang remains focused on what he does best—communicating clearly, building public trust, and connecting the party with the people.
