Political tensions surrounding the NRM Chairperson position in Oyam Town Council have come to an end after Christopher Omodo and Stalon Olong stepped down in favor of Bonny Amoki.
According to reports, when the NRM Electoral Commission began electing party structures, two prominent businessmen from Oyam Town Council—Bonny Amoki and Stalon Olong—entered the race to challenge the incumbent Chairperson, Christopher Omodo. This intensified the political competition, leading to unrest among NRM supporters, as each contender had already established a strong campaign presence.
In a closed-door meeting held at Rainbow Hotel in Oyam Town Council, Oyam District Chairperson Benson Walter Dila, who mediated the discussions, emphasized the importance of building a strong NRM foundation in the town council by fostering love and unity among party members.
Following the mediation, both Christopher Omodo and Stalon Olong stepped down in favor of Bonny Amoki. As a result, Amoki now stands unopposed, awaiting official confirmation on May 16, 2025, when the NRM Electoral Commission will conduct elections for party structures.
Despite initially being confident in his chances, Stalon Olong stated that he stepped down after realizing that the party’s unity is more important than individual ambitions. He urged fellow party members to uphold love and unity within the NRM. Similarly, Christopher Omodo withdrew in favor of Amoki, expressing his willingness to serve as vice-chairperson and support Amoki with insights from his previous leadership experience.
Bonny Amoki, now the uncontested winner, expressed gratitude for the support he received. He emphasized the importance of respect and unity among party members as they prepare to challenge UPC leadership in Oyam Town Council.
Francis Odongo Alii, an NRM opinion leader and a member of the mediation committee, urged party members to rally behind Amoki. He also cautioned opposition parties against interfering in NRM affairs, reaffirming that Oyam remains firmly under NRM leadership.
This development comes as the NRM Electoral Commission prepares to conduct nationwide elections for party structures at the sub-county level on May 16, 2025.
