Napak, 12th June 2024 – The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Napak, Denis Okori, has urgently called off a scheduled community meeting in Lomarotoit regarding a land dispute between the Katakwii and Napak people. The meeting, initially announced via WhatsApp for 13th June 2024, raised alarms about its legitimacy and the potential for unrest. RDC Okori emphasized that there are official channels of communication that must be adhered to, warning that failure to do so could lead to destruction, harm, confusion, and even loss of life. In consultation with security officials, he firmly called off any meetings or engagements in the area until clear intentions are stipulated and officially communicated by the relevant offices.
The land dispute involves the Katakwii people’s claim to 640 acres of land from the Alekilek and Lomarotoit villages in Napak. While the issue is critical, RDC Okori stressed the need for proper procedures to ensure community safety and order. He urged the Napak community to continue their routine engagements and remain vigilant against any unauthorized meetings, cautioning that anyone passing harmful information will be held responsible.
The swift action by RDC Okori highlights the necessity of conducting discussions on such significant matters through proper and secure channels. The community is reminded that their voices are vital and must be heard in a manner that ensures the safety and well-being of all involved. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official communications and await further instructions from district authorities regarding future meetings or engagements on this issue.
For further updates, residents are advised to keep an eye on official announcements from the RDC’s office. Let’s work together to ensure our community’s safety and harmony.
