The Vice President of Uganda, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, has inaugurated the Koritok Health Centre III in Usuk sub-county, Katakwi district, funded by the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Program (UGIFT) to the tune of UGX 1.2 billion. The commissioning ceremony marks a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to providing accessible healthcare facilities across all sub-counties.

In her address during the ceremony held on Friday, Vice President Alupo, who also serves as the district woman representative in Parliament, emphasized the importance of disease prevention services over curative measures. She urged residents to utilize the facility for antenatal care and cautioned against delivering at home, stressing the importance of professional medical assistance during childbirth.

Expressing gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for her reappointment, Vice President Alupo pledged to continue serving diligently in her capacity.

Dr. Simon Omeke, the District Health Officer, cautioned against the use of traditional birth attendants (TBAs), affirming the government’s stance on phasing them out. He promised to advocate for the recruitment of more healthcare workers to ensure the effective operation of health facilities within the district.

The district Chairman, Godfrey Omolo, highlighted the positive impact of the newly constructed health facility on immunization, antenatal care, and health education services.

Saviour Okwi, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner, hailed the construction as a significant step towards improving health service delivery in the area, while Usuk MP Bosco Okiror urged the community to utilize the facility for regular health check-ups.

However, challenges remain, as highlighted by Okiror’s appeal to the government for adequate staffing and drug supplies to fully equip the facility. He emphasized the importance of accessible healthcare, particularly for expectant mothers who will no longer have to travel long distances for medical assistance.

Local resident Michael Olupot echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the life-saving potential of the health facility and urging fellow residents to prioritize their health by utilizing the services offered.

The newly constructed Koritok Health Centre III comprises antenatal, male, female, and children’s wards, as well as a waiting room and staff quarters, promising comprehensive healthcare services for the community.

    .

The commissioning of the health center reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and access to quality services in rural areas, ultimately improving the well-being of citizens in Katakwi district and beyond.
