A sense of ecstasy continues to fill Katakwi district as the NRM supporters continue to celebrate the triumph of reason against Teso’s money bags who had invested heavily in order to deny the Vice president a following in the NRM structures during today’s NRM elections.

Photo : VP Alupo shakes hands with Mr Ikabat the candidate who withdrew from the race.

Prior to today’s election, over 400 NRM delegates from several sub counties were ferried outside Katakwi district to southern Teso where they were fed, accommodated and offered Shs 500,000 in order to vote in favour of John Bosco Aliabu, who was being backed purportedly by the Teso’s Money bags, against John Robert Okiror, known to lean towards Alupo.

However, in the turn of events, a number of the delegates who were ferried with intentions to brainwash them into voting for the candidate supported by Teso’s money bags switched sides much to the disappointment of Aliabu’s funders.

In the hotly contested position of the district NRM chairperson, Mr Joseph Otelem, the NRM district registrar for Katakwi district, declared John Robert Okiror as winner with 335 votes against John Bosco Aliabu 310 votes.

The slot for the NRM vice chairperson was won by Raymond Odeke from Team Alupo with 367 votes against Violet Akurut 170 votes of Team Peter Ogwang, who is the state minister for sports in the ministry of education.

Earlier on, the vice president, Jessica Alupo, who is a retired Maj, emerged as unopposed for the position of the district chairperson for the veteran’s league, promising to use her position to lobby for the welfare of the veterans and also champion for development in Katakwi and across the country.

Alupo said that, “As children of one family, the election of lining is transparent and easy to know the outcome,”

The vice president used the occasion to challenge the delegates to accept the rules of the election as directed by the NRM electoral officials.

She will be deputized by the retired Maj Joseph Ocar, as the vice chairperson for Katakwi veteran’s league, George William Ariko, as secretary and Basil Amodoi as the treasurer.

Ms Grace Akello, said that today’s outcome can be best summarized as a voice of reason against the dirty money from the so-called Teso’s money bags.

“The ferried almost all the delegates from Katakwi to Bukedea since the other day, but thanks to the majority switched sides, that is why I am calling this victory a triumph of reason against the money bags,” Akello added.

She said that the money bags, should continue sending their money to Katakwi district, “We need the money, we shall eat it as we did today, and when the voting comes we shall vote for people who preach unity against divisive leaders,”

Akello said that as team Alupo, they are overwhelmed that irrespective of the millions that was poured to brainwash the delegates, the money bags lost all key positions.

Team Alupo’s victory , comes after she declared that some some people with bad intentions from Teso are fighting her because of her interest in championing for the collective development
