In anticipation of the official launch of the WANO App, a groundbreaking African-developed social media platform scheduled for June 7, 2025. The event brought together prominent bloggers, digital content creators, cultural leaders, and tech innovators to discuss the app’s significance and its role in amplifying African voices globally.
The WANO App, which proudly carries the slogan “Africa to the World,” is designed to enable users, particularly content creators, to easily create, edit, and share content with the world. Nathan Eyagu, Chairperson of Publicity in the Teso Bloggers Association, highlighted the app’s user-friendly features, while Ichariat Samuel, Chairperson of the Bloggers Association, emphasized its cultural value, stating, “WANO will help Africans promote our rich culture and traditions while amplifying the voices of all content creators across the continent.”
Julius Jocare, Eastern Uganda Coordinator for WANO, outlined the primary goals behind the development of the app, including telling authentic African stories, showcasing African cultures and traditions in local languages, sharing joy and unity, and celebrating African music. The app’s developer, Mr. Eilma Bari, a proud Itesot from Nyero Sub County in Kumi District, Uganda, reiterated the app’s deeper purpose, stating, “WANO is not just about making money—it’s about telling our stories and showcasing Africa to the world. It is a movement.”
The Minister of Tourism for the Itesot Cultural Union applauded the initiative, encouraging Ugandans and Africans to utilize the app as a platform for expression and income generation. The app will be monetized, allowing users to withdraw earnings seamlessly through mobile money agents and other mobile platforms.
As the official launch date approaches, stakeholders are optimistic that WANO will mark a new era for African digital content and cultural representation, providing a powerful tool for Africans to tell their stories and showcase their rich cultural heritage to the world.
