Soroti City, Uganda – World Vision Uganda has partnered with the Kumam Chiefdom to launch a groundbreaking child sponsorship program aimed at uplifting vulnerable children and empowering families across five districts: Soroti, Kaberamaido, Kalaki, Dokolo, and Amolatar.
The initiative, officially launched at Plains Country Home in Soroti City, focuses on providing holistic support for children aged 3-6, ensuring access to education, water, sanitation, and nutrition. The program also equips families with tools and resources to achieve economic self-reliance and long-term stability.
Key Highlights of the Program
– Holistic Support: Provides comprehensive support for children’s physical, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being.
– Education and Nutrition: Ensures access to quality education and nutritious food for children.
– Economic Empowerment: Equips families with skills and resources to achieve economic self-sufficiency.

Partnership and Collaboration
The launch event was attended by His Highness, the Chief of Kumam, and his minister, Hon. Eyenga Samuel, along with other chiefdom leaders. The partnership demonstrates the chiefdom’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of its people and sustainable development.

The Kumam Chiefdom and World Vision Uganda have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together in Soroti, where World Vision has direct programs. The partnership will focus on advocating against violence against children and responding to emergencies in districts where World Vision is not directly working, such as Kaberamaido, Kalaki, Dokolo, and Amolatar.
According to Joseph Ecidu, Program Manager for World Vision Teso Region, “This partnership showcases the power of collaboration. By working closely with the Kumam Chiefdom, we aim to address immediate needs and establish sustainable pathways for families to thrive.”
Community Leaders’ Remarks
District leaders, including Mr. Stephen Olebe, District Speaker for Soroti, and Mr. Okello Samuel, District Chairperson of Kalaki, expressed gratitude and emphasized the importance of protecting children’s welfare and promoting community development.
Paul Eseru, Resident District Commissioner for Soroti, highlighted the need for joint efforts to overcome domestic violence and other community challenges.
