In Yumbe District, a resounding call echoes through the communities as residents unite in their plea for the return of Hon. Taban Yassin to the role of LC5 Chairman.
During his tenure, Hon. Taban Yassin oversaw a remarkable growth in Yumbe’s budget, soaring from shs 21 billion in 2011 to an impressive Shs 110 billion by 2021. His decade-long leadership left an indelible mark on the district’s progress and development.
Voicing the sentiments of many, boda boda rider Mr. Ciriga Ahkbar reminisced about the efficiency and effectiveness of Hon. Taban Yassin’s administration, particularly highlighting the district’s commendable handling of refugee influxes during that time. However, concerns have arisen over the current leadership’s disconnect from the needs of the people, with Mr. Ciriga noting the relocation of the UNHCR Sub-office from Yumbe to Arua City as a consequence.
Residents like Candiru Rhema from Barakala Sub-county express their unwavering support for Hon. Taban Yassin’s potential return, citing his proven track record of leadership and service to the community.
Chief Ajiga Godson of Ombaa-Romogi Chiefdom reflects on the dissatisfaction among his subjects regarding the current LC5 leadership. He echoes the sentiment that a change is needed to address the disunity and stagnation affecting the district’s peace and progress.
Haruna Asirafu, a local businessman, emphasizes the importance of strong and effective district leadership in fostering unity and driving development. He attributes recent challenges to what he perceives as shortcomings in the current administration.
