Story by Osuta Yusuf.
Yumbe; The local government of Yumbe District has paid a sum of 147,200,000 Shs to Nile Fishing Company Ltd which was contracted during 2021 / 2022 financial year to supply 16 YBR Motorcycles at the cost of 9,200,000 Shs each to be given out to LC3 Chairpersons of the new Sub-counties in Yumbe District.
Contrary to the procurement processes, the CAO by then Innocent Asaba made 100% complete payment to Nile Fishing Company Ltd without supplying any motorcycle to the district.
Hon Waiga Rashid the councilor representing people of Romogi Sub-county to Yumbe District council upon narrating the pain of the LC3 Chairpersons, said, if they want to follow up the matter as District Councilors, they are accused of being rebel councilors.
Speaking in a telephone call with the LC5 Chairman for Yumbe District Hon Asiku Abdul Mutalib, over the matter, he said they have written a letter to the Ministry of Local Government to intervene by following up the matter.
While claiming the motorcycles are there but the company’s assets have been frozen by URA over accumulated taxes, Hon Asiku stated that they are planning to petition URA on the issue.
However, according to our preliminary investigations, the Company is currently nowhere to be found in any part of Uganda.
The futile procurement process on the 16 YBR motorcycles has left the LC3 Chairpersons in the affected Sub-counties struggling to transport themselves to work.
