Yumbe District; The Mango Factory in Lodonga Sub-county, Yumbe District which has been constructed at the tune of 8.2b Shs including a drilled water source for the factory has also been extended outside of the factory to help the residents in the area for free.
With water coverage in Lodonga Sub-county standing at 60% and accessibility to safe water at 48%, this motorized water provided by the mango factory is expected to boost the water coverage as it will further improve the hygiene and health of the residents in the Sub-county.
Jamila Sadaka a resident of Lodonga Sub-county said, their misery from lack of access to safe water made officials in the factory to extend for them the water from the factory
Another resident, Draru Hannifa stated that the only source of water they had in the area had broken down and maintaining it became a challenge henceforth leaving them into a water scarcity.
The production manager for the Mango Factory, Henry Bagamegemu said the water extension to the community is one of the social cooperative responsibilities the factory seeks to offer to the residents in the area.
He added that the community members are using the water for free without any fees, however, incase of any minor technical faults that may need repair of spare part, the community members are the ones to pay for it.
Officials from the factory which costed 8.2 billion shs to be constructed, said, they plan to offer tailoring courses to locals in the area as another social cooperative responsibility.
