KATAKWI. Hundreds of Christians of St Anthony Catholic Church in Alogook parish of Katakwi Sub-County rejoiced after the church that took years constructing come to completion.
This development came to a breakthrough following the donations of building materials worth millions of shillings from Augustine Otuko, who later this site got to know has roots attached to this place.
Otuko who led the fundraising aimed at raising funds for the completion of the construction of St
Anthony catholic church at Alogook primary school grounds on Saturday donated 50 bags of cement,other materials and the money meant for paying off the debts accuring from the 120 borrowed iron sheets earlier on accessed for the roofing of the church.
He emphasized to all the Christians from different walks of life to adopt a culture of giving back to God
as a way of thanks giving for the life and other material properties God has availed them with.
“participating in such activities that please God opens our financial breakthrough as we aspire to live a better life”, he said.
George William Okwi chairperson construction committee, commended Otuko for being a
dedicated servant of God and being mindful of the people, Okwi revealed that Otuko has been
with them right from the breaking of the ground for the construction of the church and he has been at the fore front in mobilizing resources for it’s construction.
Philomina Akiror 79years a staunch catholic and a Christian of St Anthony catholic church could not swallow her joy, as she wished Otuko well in his endeavors.
“before the construction of the church we used to have prayers under the trees and when rains come that could mark the end of the prayers. now that, we are moving to the new building prayers can fully move on that’s why i am very glad to God for availing us a son (Otuko) who has been with us right from the beginning of the construction,” she said.
Julius Otim 34, a catechist at St Anthony Catholic Church said he was very excited for the new
development and thanked all the Christians, he asked them to always remember people who stood with them during their time of need he especially asked them to remember Augustine Otuko in their prayers who has been of help to them during the construction of the church.
St Anthony Catholic Church is under Alogook zone in Katakwi catholic parish and has a population of over 1,358 Christians who have been conducting prayers under the ancient trees around the periphery of the Alogook primary school north of Katakwi town off Usuk road opposite Olela primary school just at the boarder of Ngariam and Usuk counties
Among the elders that graced the occasion was the sub county chairperson Katakwi, Elvis
Emmanuel Ojulla, elder Stephen Ilemukori Okure former district chairperson, an icon educationist,teachers among other dignitaries.
Fundraising ceremony was also graced by weddings of four families and a mass conducted by Rev Father Opio Alex Okiro of Usuk parish mission who also represented the Soroti catholic diocese Bishop, Rt Rv Dr Joseph Echiru Oliach as the main celebrant, where 29 infants received the sacrament of baptism and the blessing of the 109 communicants. Rv Father Opio cautioned the
families that received the sacrament of Holy matrimony to remain loving each other as the
sacrament demands he further advised them to always settle family challenges amicably if any a
rises so as to remain peaceful in our day to day walk of life.
