Major players in the fuel industry have eased the pump prices for petrol to less than Shs5,000 per litre for the first time in over a year. At the weekend, a section of Total Energies stations lowered their petrol pump prices to Shs4,999. Pump prices for both petrol and diesel were below Shs5,000 a litre at the other fuel stations. The State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Col (rtd) Charles Okello Engola has been shot dead this morning by his body guard from his home in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb. Two months into the school’s first academic term, some secondary schools have not yet received instructional materials that are crucial in the new lower secondary curriculum, the Daily Monitor has established. A snap survey of schools across the country reveals that some teachers are still using the old syllabus for Senior Three class. Musinguzi Bilson, 17 a senior three student at St Leo’s College Kyegobe drowned on Thursday in an artificial water reservoir in Kijanju Cell, Virika Ward Central Division in Fort Portal Tourism City. Musinguzi and other three students reportedly left the school playground at around 9am during an ongoing patriotism training. They reportedly left the playground without permission from the school administrators and went to a water reservoir which is about one kilometer away to swim. Police in Kayunga District are hunting for unknown assailants who waylaid a 34-year-old woman in Kayonza Town in Kayonza Sub-county last evening and hacked her to death for reasons detectives are yet to establish. The Kayunga district CID boss, Ms Beatrice Ajwang, identified the deceased as Nalongo Nabikolo. She said Nabikolo was returning home from her hardware shop located in Kayonza town at around 8pm when she was attacked on the road.
